As we continue to grow in our awareness this month about domestic violence, it's important to remember that it's not a problem limited to women only. There are men who are also survivors, and they deserve services too.
Every person deserves to be in safe, loving relationships.

October 7 at 11:50 AM · Domestic violence starts early in the lifespan. An estimated 8.5 million women and over 4 million men are victims of rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime and first experience these or other forms of violence by that partner before the age of 18.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and many children placed in foster care have been or have seen abuse in their homes. Abuse is one of the main reasons they are removed from their homes.
Right now I'm in the middle of putting together everything for next month's featured group, and this one is really difficult.
Being immersed in the stats and watching videos of real people telling their story has been a bit overwhelming.
But the stats can and are changing. We can be a part of that change, one small thing at a time. I hope you will join me next month, even though it may be difficult and overwhelming to you too.
I can force myself to acknowledge the realities and face the heartbreak in the hopes that a future child won't have to live through the heartbreak.
It is the least we can do for them.
Real life is messy and beautiful and painful and overwhelming all rolled up together.

Why donate money or gift cards? Because the costs of raising children are high, and rising each year. On average, Oklahoma foster families are reimbursed about 60% of their costs. Which means for every $100 spent on essentials, the state pays about $60 while the family picks up the other $40.
Essentials are just that, essential. Let's help the families opening their homes to kids by picking up some of that remaining 40%.
Bring your gift card or cash donation to FCC Edmond this Sunday and hand it to Erin. She will deliver everything to Bright Sky Ministry next Friday!
TULSA, Oklahoma - A new voucher program will make sure more kids who age out of the foster care system will have a place to sleep at night.
Voucher programs, sponsored by DHS's Successful Adulthood Program, have been helping foster kids get on their feet after their 18th birthday for years.
Amanda Aunko with the National Resource Center for Youth Services told News On 6 the new housing vouchers will help speed the home-finding process for young adults as they prepare to transition into the real world.
